WHO: work-related sickness neglected
P(ANSA) – Rome, May 2 – Only one in three countries have government programs against the most common work-related illnesses such as muscular-bone problems, hair loss and cutaneous conditions, the World Health Organisation said Friday.BRIn addition as many as 70% of workers around the world do not have insurance against sickness and accident at work, the report says.BRNon-infectious work-related illnesses such as heart disease and depression caused by occupational stress are increasingly causing absence from the workplace and long-term sickness, the report says. Cuts, noise, carcinogens, air particles and ergonomic hazards are responsible for as many as 37% of all cases of back pain, 16% of hair loss, 13% of chronic lung disease, 11% of asthma, 9% of lung cancers, 2% of Leukemia and 8% of depression, according to the WHO report.BR/P
