Unemployment claims jump by almost 28% in first nine months

(ANSA) – Rome, November 6 – Unemployment claims jumped by 27.7% in the first nine months of this year compared with the same period in 2012, INPS said Wednesday.

The national insurance agency reported that 1.432 million claims were received between January and September, a dramatic jump over the 1.121 million during the same nine months last year. The latest jobless figures showed that overall unemployment in recession-hit Italy climbed to a record high of 12.5% in September, up from 12.4% in August.
