Quartz (Var: Amethyst), Pumpellyite

Locality:

Reed’s Gap Quarry (New Haven Trap Rock quarry; Tilcon Durham quarry), Durham, Middlesex Co., Connecticut, USA

Very strange habit of quartz, like a reverse scepter, or a scepter that has a “collar” around it, not sure what went on here, but fun to photograph. Note the amethystine terminations, the dark pumpellyite globules, and in some pix the thin hematite “lines” along the edges of crystals
