PThe Nobel-worthy breakthrough was announced at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics by an American team using a specialized telescope called BICEP (Background Imaging of Cosmic Extragalactic Polarization) at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station to scan the sky at microwave frequencies in search of ripples from the Big Bang./PPThe aim has been to try to find a residual marker for so-called cosmic inflation, meaning that the cosmos experienced an extremely rapid expansion in its first trillionth of a second of being./PPThe discovery of these primordial gravitational waves, which Big Bang theorists have been seeking for decades, could offer scientists their first glimpse into how the universe was born./PIMG id=mediaViewer title=”” alt=”” src=”http://www.mineralfossil.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/wpid-trasp168.gif”ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
