St Peter’s open at dawn for canonization

P(ANSA) – Rome, April 23 – St Peter’s Square will be open to the public as of 5:30 am local time on Sunday for the double canonization of former popes John XXIII and John Paul II, authorities said Wednesday. From Saturday evening, roads will be accessible only by foot in the immediate vicinity of St Peter’s Square, while both Rome subway lines will be active around the clock throughout the weekend. Local authorities estimate nearly one million people will flock to the area for the ceremonies presided over by Pope Francis, while unofficial estimates say millions may come. With retired pope Benedict XVI also in attendance, it is the first time in history that two living popes will be present at the ceremonies elevating two late popes to sainthood. http://popefrancisnewsapp.com/ /P
